I just read a series of hysterical letters fearful of adding a new neighborhood to our community. Yes, Marina Shores Village is a new approach to housing on the Peninsula and yes, those buildings are about as tall as the Oracle office complex. But the site can accommodate the size and it will not affect most people one bit.
In order to add residential homes to our land strapped area we must be innovative and develop denser in locations that can handle that density. Through this approach, we will alleviate pressure to develop our hillsides and open space.
Many people will wonder: "Why does she care?" Let me tell you why. My family of four just moved to the Peninsula after a decade of in-commuting. I am ecstatic that we now live where we work because of the dramatic improvement it has made to our lives. We have replaced ridiculous commute time in the car with quality family time spent in our back yard enjoying life.
In order to accomplish this, it took 10 years of saving while living in a cheaper place and 13 tear-filled rejected offers. We endured all this for the privilege of buying a staggeringly priced small two-bedroom home with a little bit of a yard. Wouldn't it be great if fewer families had to go through so much to enjoy what we who live here enjoy?

The opponents who are so vehemently against new developments are selfish. They are people who entered this real estate market 10-plus years ago, while people my age were in college, graduate school or in our first jobs. They are now sitting on a nest egg that has financed their Beamers and summer homes and want this market to remain hopelessly out of whack so that they can have the retirement they feel they are entitled to.
What I would like these selfish individuals to understand is that the consequence of their comfort is the discomfort to others. This greed is praying on young families like mine who are sacrificing so much to just be able to afford a productive life here, a place where we work, play, volunteer. I ask you to give others a chance and vote yes on Q!
