Editor,
I am writing in support of Cathy Jordan for Belmont City Council.
I first got to know Cathy when she was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Belmont Redwood Shores School District when the board had to revise the borders for school attendance. This was a contentious issue that had hundreds of district parents attending meetings that went into the early hours of the morning. Cathy led the development of an innovative attendance assignment method that successfully resolved the issue and remains in use by the district more than a decade later.
This ability to collaboratively think outside the box and create solutions for significant local problems led me to enthusiastically recommend Cathy to the Belmont City Council when it had to fill an unexpected vacancy following the 2013 election. Cathy served on the City Council for 1 1/2 years during a period when the City Council undertook action that began to address infrastructure issues faced by the city and families living in it.
She chose not to run for election when her term ended having dedicated about a decade to service. Since that time, Cathy decided to rededicate herself to public service, and is currently the vice president of the Mid-Peninsula Water District Board of Directors, making Cathy the only person to ever serve on all three elected governing boards in Belmont. Her wealth of experience, knowledge of the issues facing Belmont, and collaborative capabilities, make Cathy my choice for Belmont City Council.
