Editor,
The Democrats in our state legislature are taking a page out of Trump’s playbook.
Trump is a master of not taking responsibility for any negative outcome. He always finds someone else on which to pin the blame. Now our legislators, facing an ever increasing budget deficit, have decided all the blame should fall on the tariffs. Somehow they forgot this deficit was projected before Trump took office.
Perhaps the article in the Daily Journal did not include everyone’s response, but everyone who was quoted pointed the finger elsewhere. No one was willing to take the responsibility of turning a hundred-million-dollar surplus into a deficit that has no end in sight.                    Â
There are more troubled waters ahead. Our president-wannabe governor realizes his prospects are dim if he comes from a state with a worsening deficit. To shore things up he will likely renege on funds that were to go to the cities or force cities to cover services previously paid for by the state.
To see how this works read about the ERAF property tax shift. Every City Council should be contacting their state representatives and let them know that they expect them to defend the cities and its citizens from the governor’s grift. Will these legislators put their constituents above their political party? We shall see.

Thanks for your letter, Mr. Howard. I’d like to point out that Newsom turned a $100 billion surplus into a deficit. It is amusing to see Newsom sway from side to side as he attempts to pander to moderates. We can only hope Newsom doesn’t develop hip problems to join his problems in governing the state.
