Rex Ellington, resident of Woodside, died in Redwood City April 24, 2010 at the age of 87. Husband of Donnie Ellington, father of Hilarie Ellington and Rodne, grandfather of Shannon Thomas and the late James E. Smith, great-grandfather of Ryan, Cuilean and Eibhlin and father-in-law of James W. Smith. There are other friends and family members too numerous to mention. Rex was a U.S. naval fighter pilot and proud veteran of World War II who served his country with honor. He was a Navy reserve officer for many years, and upon his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy, Rex spent over 30 years working for NASA Ames on numerous projects of national importance. A gentle and kind man who loved his family, donated generously to wildlife preservation and progressive political causes, Rex will be loved and missed. Raise a drink to Rex. Family and friends are invited to attend a 2 p.m. memorial service Saturday, May 1 at Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 400 Woodside Road, Redwood City. Arrangements made by Crippen & Flynn Woodside Chapel, 369-4103.
