James Matthew “Jim” Riley, died peacefully on May 8, 2017, in San Mateo, where he resided for 47 years. Jim fought valiantly following a recent diagnosis of brain cancer.
He was 76.
Born in San Francisco to Matthew and Mildred Riley on February 6, 1941. Jim attended Riordan High School and the University of San Francisco where he met his lifelong love of nearly 55 years, Patricia “Pat” (Kneip) Riley. Jim and Pat raised three daughters: Anne, Suzi and Carole Riley. Jim worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 30+ years, retiring as the San Bruno Postmaster. Jim was a 45-year member of the Native Sons of the Golden West; San Mateo Elks and San Bruno Rotary.
Visitation will be 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 10, at Sneider & Sullivan in San Mateo; Rosary at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at Saint Bartholomew Church in San Mateo.
Jim is survived by his wife Pat, daughters Anne Riley, Suzi Riley and adopted daughter Monica Kraft. He was preceded in death by daughter Carole Riley.
Memorial donations may be made to the Native Sons of the Golden West Charitable Foundation.
