Gary Walter Saxon, a legendary fixture of Redwood City, also known to generations of music lovers as “The Record Man,” passed away at Stanford Hospital on May 6, 2026, surrounded by his loving wife and twin daughters. He was 82.
For almost four decades, The Record Man was more than just a retail space—it was a Redwood City institution and a sanctuary for vinyl enthusiasts. Alongside his wife, Angela Saxon, Gary built a living museum of musical history. Together, they didn’t just sell albums; they curated memories and built a lasting community.
He is survived by his three daughters, two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, as well as a global community of collectors who view him as the guardian of a fading era. He taught us that music isn’t something you just hear; it’s something you hold in your heart and hands.
A celebration of Gary’s life and vibrant spirit will be held in The Record Man Parking Lot
