Anthony (Tony) Louis Caponera, 85, of Foster City, CA, passed September 24, 2018.
Anthony was born to Arturo Caponera and Carmela (Darine DeRosa), June 21, 1933, in Syracuse, NY. He graduated from Valley High School in 1952. He married Mary Alice (Sahagun) in 1958, and they lived together in Redwood City, CA where they had two daughters. He married Darlene (Stollenwerk-Larios) in 1973, and they lived together in Foster City, CA for 43 years.
Tony leaves as his legacy two children: Victoria Soares (David), Laura Caponera (Rachel Gibas) and a grand daughter Rachel Caponera. He also leaves one sister, Mary Tallarico (Joseph) and sister-in-law Beverley Caponera, nephews Art Jr., and Danny and Fred Caponera. He was preceded in death by Arturo and Carmela Caponera, Sisto Caponera (brother), and his wife Darlene, the love of his life.
He is also lovingly remembered by his step children by Darlene: Edward Larios (Ellen), Linda Larios Gotelli (Leo), Connie Larios (Jim Lynch), Michael Larios (Shawna), and as “Grandpa Tony” to his grandchildren Michelle Klatt, Robert Klatt, David Gotelli, Michael Larios Jr., Angie Gotelli Jones, Brian Gotelli, Erik Klatt, Kristin Larios Miller, Stephen Larios, Tiana Larios, Ian Larios, and as “GT” to his 12 great grandchildren.
As a former Boy Scout and military veteran, Tony faced the world with a sense of fairness, kindness, and civility; the trademarks of a true gentleman. Anthony was a Tool and Dye craftsman for Schlage Lock Company for 40 years until he retired in 1995. He also freelanced as a member of IATSE Local 16, where he ran spotlight for many famous rock concerts and entertainment events. After retirement he became active in the 55 Plus Senior Club in Foster City where he served as President. Tony and Darlene traveled the world together, and he treasured each moment with a photograph which was his joy at every family event.
Tony was thoughtful and kind. He was accepting of everyone with open arms and a loving heart. He will be lovingly remembered.
We are grateful to Mission Hospice of San Mateo for their kindness and loving care in the final days of his life and Rev. David Ota for his spiritual support.
A celebration of Anthony’s life will be held for family and friends at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 3rd at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, Foster City, CA.
Donations may be made in Anthony’s memory to Mission Hospice of San Mateo: 1670 S Amphlett Blvd, Ste 300, San Mateo, CA 94402
Vicky and Lori would especially like to thank Darlene’s family, for caring for their father when he needed them, and when we were unable to do so.
