OAKLAND — An Oakland man described by prosecutors as a drug dealer has been sentenced to death for the 2001 killing of a hair salon owner and one of her customers.
After jurors determined in November that Christopher Evans should receive the death penalty, a judge on Friday ordered the 36-year-old Evans be put to death.
Evans was convicted of first-degree murder in the killing of 28-year-old Tina Marie Rose and second-degree murder in the killing of 41-year-old Tommy Lee Brown.
During the trial, prosecutors told the jury that Evans shot Rose and Brown as an act of revenge after he had been punched by Rose’s brother, Derrick Rose.
Evans’ lawyers had called two doctors as witnesses who testified that Evans suffered from brain damage and could not think rationally.
