A woman was struck by a car as she crossed the street at San Mateo Drive and Third Avenue last night.
She was hit by a woman driving an orange Volkswagen Beetle as the car turned left onto Third Avenue from San Mateo Drive at about 8:40 p.m.
An eyewitness, driving west on Third Avenue, said the woman who was hit flipped over the car and landed face first on the street.
"She was worse off than I thought she would be. I thought she would get up and be really mad. But she didn't move," said the eyewitness, who did not want to give her name.
"Her eyes were open when they put her in the ambulance, if that means anything," the witness said.
Police blocked off the intersection and questioned the driver, who was visibly shaken.
"Weather conditions do impact visibility," San Mateo police Lt. Mike Brunicardi said last night.
The accident is under investigation and the driver was not arrested, he said.
"The driver was not drinking and she wasn't speeding," Brunicardi said.
The victim, a 50-year-old woman, was transported to Stanford Medical Center and the extent of her injuries are not known, he said.
