An Israeli rabbi who joked about being a terrorist and carrying a bomb at San Francisco International Airport on Sunday immediately pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor and sentenced to six days in the county jail.
Stuart Booth, 51, must also pay a $110 restitution fine for the charge of falsely reporting a bomb. He receives credit for time served since his weekend arrest.
Booth was going through the security screening area on his way to a Jerusalem-bound flight when he claimed to be a terrorist. He told screeners he had a bomb in his personal property that would explode and take down the plane.
After airport police were called, Booth repeated the same claim and threat. The police arrested Booth at which point he changed his story and admitted he was simply joking around.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was contacted but allegedly told local authorities to handle the situation.
Police searched his property but found no bombs. SFO security did not clear the terminal and no travelers or flights were delayed by Booth's prank, according to the District Attorney's Office.
Booth wasted no time in admitting the single charge during his initial misdemeanor arraignment. If he had pleaded not guilty and faced trial, Booth faced up to a year in jail or a possible state prison sentence.
