The South San Francisco Unified School District (SSFUSD) introduced ultraviolet C (UV-C) technology to sanitize surfaces during the COVID-19 pandemic as students returned to in-person learning in April 2021.

The technology, called Arc UV-C, comes from biosafety company R-Zero. Arc UV-C machines are hospital-grade, mobile disinfection units that emit a 360-degree span of ultraviolet rays to disinfect entire rooms.

The South San Francisco Unified School District introduced ultraviolet C (UV-C) technology to sanitize surfaces as some students return to in-person learning on Monday.

Arc UV-C machines are hospital-grade, mobile disinfection units that emit a 360-degree span of ultraviolet rays to disinfect entire rooms.

Arc is the first hospital-grade UV-C disinfection system designed for the dynamic environments of modern organizations. Proven to destroy 99.99% of surface and airborne pathogens in a 1,000 sq. ft. room in just seven minutes, Arc is the most powerful, human-centric and adaptable UV-C system on the market.

The smart, technology-enabled device is lightweight, nimble and easy to use. 8 proprietary UV-C bulbs deliver 360 degrees of coverage, destroying 99.99% of surface and airborne pathogens - including those that cause the coronavirus and seasonal flu. LTE-M and GPS connectivity provides an auditable trail of disinfection activities - giving visibility to a historically invisible disinfection process for the first time.

Redundant, built-in safety mechanisms minimize risk and ensure virtually zero exposure.

Safety features include:

- A 30-second pre-cycle countdown allows operators to leave the room safely before a cycle begins.

- A pulsing light halo at the top of the device provides visual warning that a cycle is about to begin.

- Four long-range PIR sensors with 360° of visibility automatically shut Arc down to prevent exposure if a person enters a room during a cycle.

Arc's potent, proven UV-C light kills over 99.99% of pathogens without harmful chemicals - so it's safe to use around food, electronics, plants and furniture too. It's deadly for pathogens, but friendly for our planet.
