As of Nov. 13, updates to San Mateo County’s tight City Council races are showing little movement from preliminary vote tallies on election night, with margins in the Redwood City District 2 race thinning.
Only 7,950 ballots remain unprocessed, with 328,717 counted thus far.
In Redwood City, the margins for the District 2 seat are growing smaller. On election night, challenger Isabella Chu was ahead of incumbent Lissette Espinoza Garnica by only 68 votes. Now, Chu leads Espinoza Garcina by only 24 votes.
In Redwood City’s District 7 race, however — where Marcella Padilla was pulling ahead of Diana Reddy by a slim 51.5% compared to Reddy’s 48.5% on election night — Padilla’s lead continues to grow. She now holds 54.02% of the vote compared to Reddy’s 45.98%. Reddy has conceded the race.
Two of three open Foster City Council seats will go to Suzy Niederhofer and Patrick Sullivan. Results show Phoebe Venkat with a 245-vote lead over Shankar Kenkre for the third open seat.
In Half Moon Bay, it continues to seem likely that challengers in the District 2 and 3 seats will unseat incumbents Harvey Rarback and Joaquin Jimenez.
As of midnight Nov. 5, Patric Bo Jonsson held 56.9% of the vote compared to Rarback’s 43.1%, with Rarback trailing by 89 votes. Now Jonsson now has 55.05% of the vote, and Rarback has 44.95%. He’s now behind by 99 votes.
In the District 3 seat, Paul Nagengast held a commanding 61% lead over Jimenez on election night. Nagengast holds 767 votes, or 58.95% and Jimenez now has 534 votes, of 41.46%
