The Santa Clara County Coroner today identified a woman killed in a Sunday accident on the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge as 28-year-old Maria Jimenez of San Francisco.
Jimenez was the passenger on a motorcycle that was thrown during a three-vehicle collision that shut down westbound state Highway 92 for about two hours Sunday night.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Paul McCarthy said the motorcycle's driver, 32-year-old Alex Kalaftis of Daly City, was riding his Harley Davidson bike at approximately 5:15 Sunday night when he encountered the three-vehicle collision in the right lane.
McCarthy said that when Kalaftis swerved to avoid the accident, he and Jimenez were ejected. Jimenez landed under a Chevrolet Blazer - one of the vehicles involved in the accident.
The two were transported to Stanford Medical Center. Kalaftis was treated for minor injuries. A coroner's spokeswoman said Jimenez died at the hospital of multiple brute force injuries.
