A 19-year-old Redwood City man was arrested Saturday after allegedly hitting multiple pedestrians with his vehicle as he chased after another driver who he accused of hitting his vehicle and not stopping.
Redwood City police dispatch was called just after 10 p.m. by Brian Barbatajimaroa, who told dispatchers that he was in pursuit of a person was attempting a hit-and-run after being involved in a collision with Barbatajimaroa.
Despite being told multiple times to stop pursuing the hit-and-run suspect and to pull over and wait for police, Barbatajimaroa allegedly continued the pursuit while reaching high speeds and ignoring traffic signals and other traffic laws, according to a press release from the Redwood City Police Department.
The hit-and-run suspect, who was not identified by police, allegedly pulled over near a group of pedestrians on the 900 block of King Street, when Barbatajimaroa struck the group with his own vehicle.
Police said at least two people were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Barbatajimaroa was arrested and is now accused of four counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
