The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office arrested Isaac Lopez, 18, in Half Moon Bay on Sunday during a traffic stop. Lopez was arrested for allegedly being in possession of a loaded semiautomatic handgun in a bag, two loaded extended magazines, one with a 27-round capacity and the other with a 15-round capacity.
A Half Moon Bay traffic stop for reckless driving led to the discovery of guns and ammunition over the weekend, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office said.
On Sunday at 12:45 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a reckless driver on Interstate 280 and westbound State Route 92 heading into Half Moon Bay. A traffic stop was initiated, and deputies made contact with three people in the vehicle.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the driver was an unlicensed resident of San Jose. A male passenger in the vehicle, 18-year-old Isaac Lopez, also of San Jose, was allegedly uncooperative and refused to exit the vehicle.
After his arrest for allegedly resisting, deputies located a loaded semiautomatic handgun in a bag in Lopez’s possession, the Sheriff’s Office said. Two loaded extended magazines, one with a 27-round capacity and the other with a 15-round capacity, were also allegedly found in the bag.
Lopez was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm and extended magazines, having a firearm in a vehicle, and resisting law enforcement.
The driver was issued a citation for driving without a license and released to a family member, the Sheriff’s Office said.
