The members of O.C.R. joke it stands for Old Cranky Rockers, but it actually is short for Old County Rock.
And the band will be playing classic rock hits at Marvin Gardens in Belmont the Friday of the month.
The band plays classics that range from the 1960s to the ’90s such as Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Cream, Bad Company, Scorpions, Blondie, Lita Ford, Beastie Boys, The Cult and Nirvana.
Although those names may sound familiar, O.C.R. duplicates each of the hits with their own flair and sometimes with their own twist. And sometimes it’s obscure deep tracks or mashups like The Zoo, by the Scorpions, and Roadhouse Blues, by the Doors.
O.C.R. is from Belmont and the core of the band is singer Erica Lowes, guitarist Steve Guernsey, bassist David Antone, drummer David “Gomee” Gomez and, on occasion, keyboardist Mike Wiebenson. The band members are Bay Area natives who live locally except for Guernsey, a former Belmont resident who currently lives and commutes from Groveland for all rehearsals and gigs.
The band started with Lowes, Antone and David Schatek, a former member who is now their sound guy. They talked about starting the band for a couple of years before getting serious enough to obtain a rehearsal space. Unfortunately, it was right before the pandemic caused everything to shut down. Still three months later they were practicing drummerless. It would take a few months of trials and errors with different drummers before finding Gomez. Lowes and Gomez played together years ago in a rhythm and blues band.
O.C.R. is available for private and public events or parties. Email thelioness725@gmail.com for more information. Marvin Gardens is at 1160 Old County Road in Belmont where the music starts and ends early to accommodate their residential neighborhood. O.C.R. begins 6 p.m. and goes only until a little after 9 p.m. since Marvin Gardens closes by 10 p.m.
