California Democrats are locked in one of the most consequential disputes in modern state history over the future of the Los Angeles-to-San Francisco high-speed rail project after a decade of troubled construction.

The $105 billion bullet train project — for which $10.3 billion has been spent so far — would be the largest single investment in state history, the most ambitious civil works effort in the nation and now a symbol to many experts of how not to build a railroad, all of which define the stakes in the current impasse.

Rail transportation has been dramatically improved over the past couple of decades in LA County. However, some of the problems that have stalled the HSR rail project in the Central Valley have been encountered in SoCal. In the early 2000s, a new rail system connected LA and Pasadena. A light rail extension for an 18 mile span from Pasadena to Glendora was slated for completion in 2004. Well, it's 2022... eighteen years later... the line is still not complete.

California's voters hearts' were in the right place in 2008 when they approved the HSR project... let's move lots of people up and down the state in an environmentally desirable fashion. Fourteen years later, the project is doomed to failure. The project was supposed to cost $33 billion dollars... now, the price tag is up to $105 billion dollars. Lets cut our losses... no mas!

Even though the SoCal project and the HSR are hideously behind schedule and much more expensive than originally projected... when the SoCal project is completed, it will be readily available and capable of serving millions of riders. That will not be the case with the HSR project. Gavin... if you're listening... we already have a high speed transit system that can move people from SoCal to NorCal. It leaves LAX hourly.

Biggest waste of money in California's history.

If Newsom didn’t give $31 billion in EDD funds to criminals, Newsom would have more money to fund his union giveaway known as the train-to-nowhere. Congratulations to those Democrats taking a stand against wasting more money on this ironically named “high-speed” rail project.
