Rukshana Singh has been named city librarian for the city of San Mateo, following selection by City Manager Alex Khojikian and approval by the Library Board of Trustees.

Singh has served in a leadership capacity within the San Mateo Public Library since 2012 and will now oversee the department’s operations and long-term strategy. In her new role, Singh will manage a team of more than 60 staff members. As deputy city librarian, she played a central role in developing the 2025-28 Strategic Plan and collaborated with managers to expand in-person programming, welcoming residents back into library spaces. She successfully led the library through the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, establishing curbside service and overseeing a safe return to full operations. She also previously led the Information Services Division as supervising librarian, guiding digital services, outreach and marketing initiatives. Before joining the city of San Mateo, she worked at the Torrance Public Library, and held archival and preservation roles at Visual Communications and the Southern California Library for Social Studies and Research in Los Angeles, according to the city.
