A man accused of threatening his roommate with an ax and then holding a standoff with police was arrested in Redwood City, police said Thursday.
On Wednesday at about 3:36 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a disturbance between two roommates on the 300 block of Redwood Avenue in Redwood City.
When police arrived, one roommate was allegedly wielding an ax over his head and threatening the other resident with it. The suspect left the residence and retreated to the backyard.
A perimeter was established around the residence and neighbors were told to stay indoors as officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect. The man was not heeding any commands from the officers, so a crisis negotiation team was called in, police said. After about 30 minutes of negotiations, the man was safely taken into custody and no one was injured.
Arrested was Eduardo Lazoflores, 46. He was first taken to the hospital for an evaluation and then booked into the San Mateo County Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and obstruction of justice.
The case is still under investigation, but police believe there is no threat to the community and it involved “roommate-related tensions.”
