A capsized vessel in the vicinity of California’s D.L. Bliss State Park at Lake Tahoe on Saturday afternoon.
Eight people who died after a boat capsized amid stormy weather on Lake Tahoe last weekend have been identified, including some who were Bay Area residents, according to the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities responded around 3 p.m. Saturday to reports of a capsized boat near D.L. Bliss State Park. Six people were found dead that day while two survived and two others were missing. The bodies of the two missing people were later recovered, sheriff’s officials said.
The victims have been identified as Joshua Pickles, 37, of San Francisco; his parents Terry Pickles, 73, and Paula Bozinovich, 71, both of Redwood City; Peter Bayes, 72, of Lincoln; Timothy O’Leary, 71, of Auburn; Theresa Giullari, 66, and James Guck, 69, both of Honeoye, New York; and Stephen Lindsay, 63, of Springwater, New York.
According to his LinkedIn account, Joshua Pickles was an executive with the delivery app company DoorDash. Pickles’ widow Jordan Sugar-Carlsgaard issued a statement Tuesday about the tragedy.
“No words can express the pain and anguish we feel knowing their lives were lost during what was meant to be a joyful time on the lake. Our hearts go out to those who tragically lost their lives and the two survivors of this unexpected and deadly storm on Lake Tahoe,” Sugar-Carlsgaard wrote, adding that the family wanted to thank the first responders who assisted in the search and rescue mission
