Burlingame City Council set to vote on agreement Monday
After losing $100,000 a year for three years on its golf center, the city of Burlingame is set to change its operations agreement to make money and keep the center open, according to a city report released yesterday.
The five-year lease agreement means the city will receive $50,000 a year for two years and $60,000 a year for three years.
The Burlingame Golf Center is on Bayshore Highway at the former site of a landfill. It is right next to a soccer field and offers a driving range, pro shop and snack bar. Since its opening in March 2000, the city has lost $100,000 a year. However, operator VB Golf has made money while no money has been set aside for long-term maintenance. The new agreement does not set aside money for long-term maintenance, but on-going maintenance should help prolong the life of the facility, according to the report.
If the City Council votes to approve the agreement at its meeting Monday, the lease will go into effect immediately and will be good for five years. The lease may be renewed for additional five-year terms.
Burlingame residents can purchase range balls at a 20 percent discount when purchasing value cards of $50 or more. Students at Burlingame Intermediate School, Burlingame High School and Mills High School can use the facility for free while with the golf team or during field trips.
