New fitness center planned
A fitness and weight-loss center for women is being proposed for a location recently vacated by Ace Hardware in Burlingame Plaza.
ShapeXpress is proposing to open a new fitness center at 1861 El Camino Real next to the Long's Drugs. ShapeXpress plans on operating 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week and will offer circuit training, cardio equipment, nutritional products, a locker room, dry sauna and two massage rooms.
The Burlingame Planning Commission studied the proposal at its meeting last night and had some questions regarding parking. It still must come back to the Planning Commission for final approval.
The center expects to have under 35 visitors a day at first and eventually expect up to 200 visitors a day.
Batting cages in the works
Future Pro, a batting cage facility, is being planned for Rollins Road in Burlingame.
The facility, planned for 1872 Rollins Road next to Prime Time Athletic Club, would have five batting cages and a training area. It would also have a putting machine and basketball hoop for use by people waiting to use the batting cages.
Half the building is currently used as storage for Prime Time; the other half is currently vacant. It is expected that the facility would mainly be used by children, but it would be open to adults as well.
The Planning Commission studied the proposal at its meeting last night. The facility still needs final approval.
