Happy Birthday, ‘Bee’

Bernice ‘Bee’ Serensky Meyer is turning 105, Aug. 18. She is a second-generation San Franciscan, born at Children’s Hospital on Aug. 18, 1920. After she graduated high school at age 16, Bee went directly to college at University of California, Berkeley, majoring in economics. She married Alvin ‘Bud’ Meyer April 1, 1945, at her parents’ home on 26th Avenue in San Francisco. In the 1960s, she volunteered as director, then president, of the Menlo-Atherton American Association of University Women (AAUW), where she was afforded the opportunity to host guest speakers at Stanford University. Bee and Bud moved to the Peninsula Regent on May 1, 1994, at age 74. Bud died on May 23, 2000, just after their 55th wedding anniversary. In Bee’s final years, she has been well taken care of by her daughter Darcy Meyer Dunaway,  and has gotten lots of attention from her son Dean Meyer (and wife Susan Rho); special friend Ed Mentzer; and especially Salina, Veronica, and all the compassionate and patient staff at the Regent.
