San Mateo 254, Sequoia 254
The Bearcats and Cherokees battled to a rare tie at Crystal Springs Golf Course.
Andrew Fung and Jacob Katanski led the way for San Mateo (1-3-1) with rounds of 45 and 46, respectively.
College baseball
San Mateo 10, West Valley 1
The Bulldogs opened Golden Gate Conference play with an emphatic win over the Vikings.
Angelo Bortolin had a big day at the plate for CSM (1-0 Golden Gate, 12-7 overall), going 3 for 5 with a home run and four RBIs. Daniel Haberern and Nick Knecht each drove in a pair of runs for the Bulldogs as well. Leadoff hitter Jack McCarthy had three hits in six at-bats, driving in a run, while Kevin Jordan, Chris Papapietro and Knecht, who also homered, each rapped out a pair of hits.
Sophomore pitcher Jared Milch picked up the win with six innings of work, giving up four hits and one run while striking out four and walking two. A combination of David Rajeski, Jamie Kruger and Justin Berry finished up for Milch, allowing only two more hits over the final three innings.

Boys’ basketball
Half Moon Bay 55,Rio Americano-Sacramento 50
Sam Treanor scored nine fourth-quarter points as the fifth-seeded Cougars pulled away from the 12th-seeded Raiders over the final four-plus minutes to win their Northern California Division III opener at the CUSD Event Center in Half Moon Bay.
Treanor would finish with 16 points and three assists to lead HMB (25-5). Gavin Tomberlin, who drained a key 3-pointer in the fourth, finished with eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.
The Cougars will now travel to Modesto to take on fourth-seeded Central Catholic (29-2) in a semifinal game at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Girls’ basketball
Sacred Heart Prep 52, Campolindo-Moraga 40
The eighth-seeded Gators jumped out to a 21-10 lead over the No. 9-seeded Cougars after the first quarter and held their lead through as SHP advanced to the semifinals of the Nor Cal Division III tournament.
Zoe Zaharias led SHP with 15 points as four of the five Gators’ starters scored in double figures. Tatum Angotti added 14, Denise Stine finished with 11 and Charlotte Levison chipped in with 10 points.
Haley Van Dyke, who scored 60 points in a Campolindo North Coast Section quarterfinal victory, was held to just 11 points by the Gators.
SHP (19-11) will now go on a long road trip to the northern part of the state to take on top-seeded Enterprise-Redding at 6 p.m. Saturday.
San Ramon Valley-Danville 73,Menlo School 54
Despite connecting on 12 3-pointers, the 13th-seeded Knights could not slow down the No. 4 Wolves, who also drained a dozen from long distance, to end Menlo’s season in the first round of the Nor Cal Division II tournament.
Menlo (16-10) was led by Mallory North and Avery Lee, who both finished with 14 points. Maeia Makoni added 10 points for the Knights.
Softball
Hillsdale 6, San Mateo 3
A four-run fourth proved to be the difference for the Knights in a PAL Bay Division win over the Bearcats.
Hillsdale (2-0 PAL Bay) led 6-0 before San Mateo (0-2) got on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Bearcats added a third run in the fifth, but would get no closer.
Freshman Mika Chong led Hillsdale by going 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs. Brianna Santos also went yard for the Knights. Bailey McDonough was 3 for 3 with a RBI as well for Hillsdale.
Kealani Kaufusi started in the circle and went the first three innings, allowing just three hits in earning the victory. Sophia Kajani worked the final four innings.
Monet Scheller, Jordan Seyfried and Kendall Richards each drove in a run for San Mateo. Julia Cerreta and Giuliana each Selvitella each had two hits for the Bearcats.

Carlmont 10, Sequoia 0
A two-run fifth was enough to give the Scots a 10-run, mercy-rule win over the Cherokees in a PAL Bay Division game.
Carlmont (2-0 PAL Bay) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first, took command with five runs in the third and tacked on two in both the fourth and fifth innings.
Katy Rogers made her first start in the circle for Carlmont and held Sequoia to just one hit. Offensively, Rogers added a pair of hits and drove in a run.
Mailey McLemore hit her second home run in three games and also doubled as she collected three RBIs for the Scots, who also got RBIs from Ashley Trierweiler, Tayler Wise, Bianca Vitale, Samantha Chu and Gabriella Avalos.
Boys’ tennis
Hillsdale 6, Sacred Heart Prep 1
The Knights cruised past the Gators in a non-league match.
Hillsdale swept the singles and won two of the three doubles matches. David Bori was dominant at No. 1 singles for the Knights, winning his match 6-2, 6-0. Lucas Rosenberg needed three sets to get past SHP’s Luke Pisani, 7-5, 6-7(4), (10-4).
SHP’s win came at No. 1 doubles.
Boys’ volleyball
San Mateo 3, Mills 2
The Bearcats opened PAL play with a marathon win over the Vikings, 14-25, 27-25, 26-24, 18-25, 15-13.
Gui Pains led San Mateo with 16 kills, who was followed closely by Angelo Castillo, who pounded down 15 kills.
Boys’ golf
Woodside 224, South City 310
Carson Katz shot a 3-over 39 to lead the Wildcats to the PAL Ocean Division win over the Warriors at Lake Merced Golf Course.
Erika Tsuchiyose shot a 45 for Woodside, which also got a 47 from Gabriel Goldberg and a 49 from Trevor Cook.
South City was led by Darrius Amigleo, who carded a 44.
Burlingame 216, San Mateo 276
The Panthers cruised to the PAL Bay Division win over the rival Panthers at San Mateo’s Poplar Creek Golf Course.
San Mateo (1-3 PAL Bay) was led by Andrew Fung, who finished with a 45, and Joseph Katanski, who carded a 46.
Menlo School 177, King’s Academy 222
The Knights shot 3-under as a team in one of the most dominant performances in school history as they beat King’s Academy in a WBAL match at Palo Alto Hills Country Club.
Jeremy Yun, a freshman, had the shot of the day for Menlo as he made a hole-in-one on the par-3 second hole on his way to a 1-under 35.
Menlo was led by junior Charlie Hsieh, who fired a 4-under 32 and finished his round eagle, birdie, birdie. Seth Pope shot an even-par 36, while John Weingart and Max Ting both posted 37. Weingart had three consecutive birdies on holes Nos. 4, 5 and 6.
Kripa Dharan was the sixth Menlo golfer under 40, finishing with a 38.
Girls’ lacrosse
Monte Vista-Danville 14,Menlo-Atherton 6
The Bears opened the season with a non-league loss to the Mustangs.
Monte Vista took control of the match in the first half, outscoring M-A 8-2. The Bears closed the gap in the second, with Monte Vista outscoring M-A just 6-4.
Audrey Koren led the M-A attack, finishing with four goals. Samantha Jeffrey and Lottie Plewman each scored once for the Bears.
