Hillsdale eliminated; Aragon, Carlmont into semis
The fifth-seeded Knights battled, but fourth-seeded Mt. Madonna-Watsonville came away with a 25-19, 21-25, 25-22, 25-22 victory to end the season for Hillsdale (19-7) in the Central Coast Section Division II bracket Tuesday.
The Knights had three players finish with double-digit kills, led by junior Austin Chen, who had 12. Sophomore Brady Bittle and senior Jaden Young each added 10 finishes. Senior middle blocker Logan Baker had three block, while freshman libero Ryder Alvarez led the team with 12 kills and cleanly handled 29 of 32 serve receives. Senior setter Arian Zolotukhin finished his high school career with 41 assists.
In Division I, a Peninsula Athletic League team is guaranteed a spot in the championship. Third-seeded Aragon (31-9) and second-seeded Carlmont (30-7), which shared the Bay Division title, meet in one of Thursday’s semifinal matches, with the Dons making the short trip to Belmont for a 6 p.m. showdown.
Aragon punched its ticket to the final four following a sweep of No. 6 Los Altos (24-7) Tuesday — 25-18, 25-20, 25-17. Meanwhile, Carlmont, the 2023 DI champion, knocked off No. 10 Christopher (27-5) — 25-17, 25-21, 25-19.
The Division I championship game is scheduled for Saturday at St. Francis-Mountain View at a time to be determined.
Girls’ lacrosse
Menlo mauls Mitty; Woodside only PAL team to advance
The third-seeded Knights opened CCS Division I play by blitzing the sixth-seeded Monarchs in Atherton Tuesday.
The match was close early, with Menlo (14-5) lead just 6-4 after the first quarter, before the Knights pulled away for the rout. Menlo outscored Mitty (14-8) 9-1 in the second period to hold a comfortable 15-5 lead at halftime. The Knights took their foot off the gas in the second half, as Mitty outscored them, 5-4.
Elia Choe filled the stat sheet for Menlo. In addition to five goals and three assists, she won five faceoffs, scooped up three ground balls and forced a pair of turnovers. Hannah Bernthal, Kaelee Wang, Marin Yamada and Tate Golden all added three goals for the Knights, with Bernthal adding a pair of assists and tying Choe for a team-high honors with five faceoff wins. Wang also matched Choe with three assists.
Menlo goalie Tiergan Rowe finished with five saves.

The Knights move into the semifinals where they will take on No. 2 St. Ignatius (16-5), which eliminated Hillsdale (13-6), 21-4. The Knights and Wildcats will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in San Francisco.
In other Division I action, top-seeded and undefeated Sacred Heart Prep (18-0) finished off No. 8 Burlingame (15-4), 19-4. The Gators will host No. 4 St. Francis (8-6) at 4 p.m. Thursday in Atherton. The Lancers ended the season for Menlo-Atherton (11-6), beating the Bears 6-5.
In Division II, No. 3 Woodside (7-9) is the last San Mateo County public school standing in the girls’ lacrosse brackets as the Wildcats knocked off No. 6 Los Gatos (9-11), 13-10. Woodside will have to make the long haul to Pebble Beach to take on No. 2 Stevenson (14-4) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in a semifinal match. The Pirates advanced with a 13-7 win over No. 7 Castilleja (9-10).
The CCS title games are scheduled for Saturday at a time and place to be determined.
Boys’ lacrosse
Only two county teams left
Sacred Heart Prep, the defending Division I champ and No. 2 seed, cruised into the semifinals with a 16-2 win over No. 7 Los Gatos (13-7) to give head coach Chris Rotelli win No. 202 in his 12th season leading the Gators.
Rotelli reached the 200-win plateau following a 27-1 win over Mitty April 27. Win No. 201 was a 27-3 decision over Sacred Heart Cathedral before adding Los Gatos to the list.
Despite being the No. 2 seed, SHP (11-8) will have to go on the road to San Jose to take on No. 6 Bellarmine (9-6) at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Bells advanced after upsetting No. 3 Menlo School (13-7), 13-12. The Gators buried the Bells 14-3 in a West Catholic Athletic League match March 26.
Fifth-seeded Serra (13-8) saw its season end with a 10-3 loss to WCAL rival and fourth-seeded St. Francis (9-4). The Lancers will take on top-seeded St. Ignatius (12-5) in the other Division I semifinal. The Wildcats destroyed eighth-seeded Mitty, 29-0.
In Division II, second-seeded Menlo-Atherton is the only San Mateo County public school to make the final four as the PAL Bay Division champ Bears (8-4) topped No. 7 Burlingame (10-7), 6-2.
Up next for M-A is a home match against No. 3 Live Oak (15-3) at 7 p.m. Thursday. The Acorns beat No. 6 Sacred Heart Cathedral (6-8), 17-6. The other Division II semifinal pits No. 4 Palo Alto (13-5) vs No. 1 Stevenson (7-9).
The CCS championship matches are scheduled for Saturday at a time and place to be determined.
