We are fortunate to have the Sacramento insight of CalMatters in the Thursday DJ, thank you! In my 35 years in California, more than anything, I’ve seen the tragedy of good intentions in Sacramento (well, and popular vote chasing) lead to every kind of unintentional stumble, from energy to education to crime and rehab, DMV to homelessness.
It amazes me what short memories we voters have that Steve Ortiz could write his objection to Dan Walters (March 12) pointing out how we’ve stumbled yet again, lately on drafting the state budget. One could search any of 10 major issues of the last five years with “in California” and get an article on a scandal-sized screw up from our home state (Try it, it’s amazing).
And yet we blissfully reelect essentially the same leaders year after year — you know, like Sen. Scott Wiener and our state’s blue-eyed CEO. As the mountain road sign says, watch out for falling rocks.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Riggs. Folks get the government they vote for. Fortunately, we have folks like Dan Walters who informs citizens about how California is performing, or failing. And also fortunately, folks with the means can leave the state, taking their state income taxes and move to a fiscally managed state.
