A 27-year-old San Francisco woman accused of working with two others to steal from older women as they shopped in grocery stores in Half Moon Bay and Daly City is behind bars Friday after she was arrested and charged with three counts of financial elder abuse, grand theft and conspiracy, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Tashira Huntley is facing six years in state prison for executing on a “bump-and-grab” strategy with her sister and another woman in which they would “accidentally” bump into older women in a grocery store and steal from their purses while they were distracted, according to prosecutors.
In incidents in January and April, Huntley and her co-conspirators are believed to have targeted four women, three of which were over 70 years old and one 90. They allegedly used stolen credit cards in shopping sprees at the Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo and a Target store in Colma, spending a total of $15,395.06, according to prosecutors.
Identified by closed-circuit television cameras at stores where they used the cards, the three suspects had arrest warrants out for them but Huntley’s sister and the other suspect have yet to be apprehended, according to prosecutors.
In custody on $400,000 bail, Huntley pleaded not guilty to her charges Friday and will next appear in court for Superior Court review conference June 28, according to prosecutors.
