San Carlos city officials and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday Capt. Mark M. Duri will take over as the city’s police chief when Greg Rothaus assumes the role of assistant sheriff later this month.
After 13 years as the city’s police chief, Rothaus will head the Sheriff’s Office operations division, giving him oversight of all its police bureaus, including San Carlos, according to a city press release.
Rothaus was at the helm of the department when the city contracted with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office in 2010 in an effort to maintain its public safety services and cut costs.
With more than 29 years of experience with the Sheriff’s Office and a background in city policing, Duri’s tenure as the city’s new chief is set to begin March 26, according to the release.
“I am truly honored to be selected as police chief for this amazing community,” said Duri in the release. “It is absolutely the highlight of my career and I am really looking forward to getting started.”
