Aragon High School in San Mateo awarded about 320 diplomas to members of the Class of 2005 Wednesday night at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center. One hundred fifty-six students, or just under half the class, are planning to attend four-year colleges. About 44 percent, or 142 students, will attend junior colleges.
Fifty-five students are going to private or out-of-state colleges, while 51 plan to go to University of California schools and 50 to California State Universities.
Colleges admissions appear may have been more competitive this year, said Ellen Willard, Aragon's college and career advisor.
Four other Peninsula high schools - Capuchino, Mills, San Mateo and Hillsdale - will hold graduation ceremonies on Thursday evening. Burlingame High School will hold its graduation at 5:30 p.m. Friday on its football field.
