A 21-year-old San Mateo man has been charged with residential burglary and assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly attacking a man inside his home on Hillsdale Boulevard on the night of May 17, San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said.
The man, Juan Galicia Lopez, pleaded not guilty to the charges and remains in custody on a $100,000 bail, Wagstaffe said.
Lopez, along with two other men, allegedly appeared at the front door of the home, startling a man inside the house.
After entering the home, Lopez allegedly brandished a pocket knife, slashing at the victim’s chest and causing a minor laceration. The victim then threw Lopez to the ground and held him until police arrived after hearing reports of screams and an altercation in the neighborhood.
The two other men alleged to have been with Lopez attempted to break a kitchen window when Lopez was allegedly pinned down, but fled the scene before police arrived, Wagstaffe said.
Police reported they found the defendant held down by the victim in the house with a pocket knife at his side. Lopez, who allegedly fought the police as they attempted to arrest him, said he had “problems” with the person living in the house and that he wasn’t sure why he had attempted to attack him, Wagstaffe said.
His preliminary hearing date is June 2.
