An individual died Tuesday after falling from a cliff at Gray Whale Cove State Beach in San Mateo County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Rescue crews with the Sheriff’s Office and Cal Fire responded to the beach at about 11:45 a.m. after reports of a person who had fallen from a cliff began to come in. Specialized rescue teams responded, but the person died, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Witness reports indicate the person may have experienced a medical emergency.
State Highway 1 was closed for about 30 minutes to allow first responders access to the area and has since reopened, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
