The county has some questions about the agreement between the Peninsula Healthcare District and Mills-Peninsula/Sutter that might not be answered before the contract for the new hospital in Burlingame is finalized.
The $450 million new facility on El Camino Real at Trousdale Drive was approved in July after six years of negotiations, planning and legal hurdles. Construction on the hospital could begin as early as 2007 and would take about three and a half years to complete.
On Aug. 19, San Mateo County Counsel Thomas Casey sent a letter to the Peninsula Healthcare District's attorney, Colin Coffey. Casey raised 15 questions asking for exact figures, clarification to wording within the contract and answers to hypothetical future situations. For example, "What are the exact terms of the deed restrictions to be placed on the district's property?" and "What is the cost, if any, to the district if [Mills-Peninsula/Sutter] fails to obtain the regulatory approvals necessary to construct the new hospital?"
The letter is not specifically listed to be discussed on this week's agenda, however there will be a public forum held.
District board Vice Chair Daniel Ullyot said many of those issues could come up during the public forum. The board will also be meeting in a closed session prior to the meeting.

"I suspect some of the things raised by the counsel will be discussed," Ullyot said.
Ullyot did not know if the questions would be addressed prior to the final vote for the lease.
The Peninsula Healthcare District will meet on Thurs. Aug. 25, 5:45 p.m. at the Peninsula Medical Center, 1783 El Camino Real in Burlingame.
