The cable channel that provided live coverage of former NFL player Rae Carruth's murder trial said it was its most-watched trial since the O.J. Simpson murder case.
"Our experience has been consistently that athletes in trouble get a lot of interest," said Marlene Dann, Court TV's vice president for daytime programming.
Viewership grew until the week of closing arguments in mid-January reached about 327,000 U.S. households. The Jan. 19 verdict was seen in about 500,000 homes. By contrast, the average rating for Court TV's Simpson coverage was 2.4.
ABC's news magazine "20/20" planned to televise a segment on the case Friday night.<
