Division I
St. Francis 4, Serra 1
The San Mateo kid showed up and showed out to knock the Serra Padres out of the Central Coast Section Division I baseball playoffs.
Landon King
St. Francis sophomore Landon King roped a two-run double to spark a four-run third inning, and the No. 1-seed Lancers (25-3) rode it to the 4-1 win over No. 8 Serra in Mountain View. King caught a fastball from freshman left-hander Michael Ohman and mashed it to left to plate brothers Sione and Siale Tulua. Senior Tanner Wall followed with his third home run of the year.
Lancers starting pitcher Kyle McMillan worked 5 2/3 innings to earn the win. The junior set down nine Padres in a row before senior Aaron Minton led off the sixth with a double to center. After William Walbridge knocked in Minton with an RBI groundout, Jace Peavey, Brody Crudeli and Alex Hicale drew three straight two-out walks to force St. Francis to go to the bullpen. Senior close Ian McMahon came on to strand the bases loaded, and pitched through an error and a Minton single in the seventh to finish out his second save of the year.
Ohman took the loss, allowing four runs on five hits through four innings of work for Serra (17-10). Senior right-hander Riley Lim worked two perfect innings of relief, striking out three.
St. Francis now advances to the Division I semifinals to take on No. 5 Soquel Wednesday night at Excite Ballpark in San Jose at 7 p.m.
