Editor,
In my opinion, soon to be ex-Sheriff Christie is truly mentally ill. The fact that she is continuing this losing battle to keep her job and costing San Mateo County taxpayers millions in lawsuits against her and by her justifies my opinion.

Once this fiasco is over, and in no small part due to the gutless people on the Board of Supervisors who think they need to tip toe their way to ousting her, her next move should be to pack her bags and move. If she even thinks she can obtain a job in law enforcement anywhere in the state and beyond is far fetched. She will be lucky to secure a job as a hostess at an Applebee’s given her notoriety. I hope she is shunned by every person she encounters given her pious attitude that she has done nothing wrong.
And just to be fair with my criticism of the actors involved in this drama, the sheriffs suing her, including our county manager, should themselves rethink their positions as their legal actions harm us, the taxpayers, who will foot the bill should they prevail in their lawsuits. To think these so-called law officers who took an oath to defend and protect are whining about how damaged they are emotionally because they’re feeling hurt and intimidated by Christie’s actions against them is ludicrous. Grow a pair you babies.

As usual, Mr. Wackerman didn't follow the old 'engage brain before writing/speaking' theory. While I agree with him about the Sheriff sage has gone too far, there is something called the Law, which has to be followed to the letter in this case. The Sheriff has the right to due process, just like everyone else, including Mr. Wackerman. There are also State and Federal Labor Code laws to follow, including the prescribed legal procedures to legally remove the Sheriff from her position. And, as for the individual Deputy Sheriffs who are suing the Sheriff, they also have a right to sue her in a court of law. It has nothing to do with "grow a pair you babies". It's called the proper way to seek a legal remedy and recourse if an employee suffered legal damage caused by his/her employer. Class dismissed.
Here we go again… Mike O. with his personal attacks, this time focused again on another of his foils, Mr. Wackerman. A reminder… let’s not forget this is the Mike O. who doesn’t believe the US Constitution protects individual liberties when everyone under the sun can quickly and easily do a simple search for “does the constitution protect individual liberties.” Yep, protects individual liberties. And now, all of a sudden, Mike O. is preaching the rule of law? What happened to the law when Biden opened our borders? What happened to the law when rogue activist judges are choosing to ignore Supreme Court rulings? San Mateo could have taken more immediate action than slow walking the process. We see the consequences of their inaction in the form of multiple million dollar plus lawsuits being filed. I predict we’ll see another one from the sergeant placed on administrative leave and which Corpus is hiding behind the “personnel” matter thing explanation. As for class dismissed, hey Mike O., how about starting your class without personal attacks? And how about taking a class in understanding how the US Constitution protects individual liberties? Thank you in advance.
Why do we keep ending up with such incompetent sheriffs? It is almost as if Trump had appointed them! The worst of this sorry gang must be Munk, though. I had a dispute with him regarding School Crossing Guards, which he claimed could only escort people across, not direct traffic, as I had been doing quite successfully for years, and in line with Federal regulations, which he didn’t even know! One of his deputies took over the job when I was in Norway for a class reunion, but disappeared after having tried it one morning, creating a horrible mess, where everything clogged up, and two cars collided! No, not an easy job directing traffic in a T-section, which he claimed wasn’t as hard as the street on the other side of this elementary school. I tried to explain to him that on a straight street there was only 2 traffic patterns: cars flow while people are held back, or people cross while cars are held back. But I gave up trying to explain to him the 12 different traffic patterns in a T-section, not counting illegal turns, like doing a U-turn. No, neither a badge on the chest, nor a gun on the hip, is a substitute for a brain.
Bob - a great LTE, particularly coming from you. What would be helpful at this stage is getting a full listing of the attorneys who have wormed themselves into this saga. I saw that one of our former City Council members has also joined this team of fleecing the San Mateo taxpayers. "To think these so-called law officers who took an oath to defend and protect are whining about how damaged they are emotionally because they’re feeling hurt and intimidated by Christie’s actions against them is ludicrous. Grow a pair you babies." We need eradication of the entire incompetent top in this County, all of them products of DEI, and belly laughing behind our backs. How dumb can we be? How proud were some when we elected the first Latina Sheriff, not because of qualifications, because of her ethnicity. We are paying dearly for falling into that trap. She is an insult to the entire Latina community.
Thanks for your letter, Mr. Wackerman. If you put yourself in Sheriff Corpus’s (gifted) high-heeled boots, what options can you see? Sheriff Corpus is backed up against the corner and doesn’t have much to lose. I say she’s still positioning herself for a decent payout – or just staying in office until her term ends (looking more likely than not). As you imply, Sheriff Corpus’s law enforcement career is likely over when this saga mercifully ends. Perhaps Ms. Corpus can become a consultant, advising folks on tactics in how not to be pushed out of office and extending issues as long as possible. She’s doing a pretty good job so far. IMO, based on LTE’s and comments, many seem to agree. People get the government they voted for, whether for San Mateo Sheriff or San Mateo councilmembers.
Congrats Rob. I can't remember any of us obtaining dual occupancy in both local papers LTE on the same day + your content was excellent, as usual.
Props to our Hayward Park consciousness.
