The creation of council districts in Redwood City meant incumbent Diana Reddy was left out, and she has decided to return to run for the District 7 seat left vacant by the retiring Alicia Aguirre. Marsella Padilla is running too, and is backed by Aguirre.
Both bring good experience to the table, with Padilla seeking to be responsive to the needs of the district that covers much of the hilled areas of the western ends of the city. Padilla also has an active energy to her and emphasizes the need for new housing of all types and for more streamlined permitting processes at the city. These are strong ideas and Padilla shows an interest in creating efficiencies at the city in housing and the budget.
However, Reddy has a long history of community organizing at the grassroots level that, when applied at the council level, just makes sense, especially with her firsthand knowledge of working on the council. Reddy is as progressive as they come, with her eyes always on ways to ensure the people who make less than others have the assistance they need to survive and thrive. It is an ethos she has not strayed from in her years of activism and on the council. She understands the needs of the community, particularly the low-income and immigrant community and it is that community on which she has focused over the years.
Both would be great additions to the council but Reddy’s experience gives her the edge for this seat.
