Veterinarians do not know how old Felix is but believe he is fully grown.
A severely injured Florida kingsnake is now available for adoption by an experienced snake owner at the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA in Burlingame.
The PHS/SPCA received the snake on June 27 with burn wounds covering a third of his body. The snake, named Felix, was also emaciated and dehydrated. PHS/SPCA staff suspects the burn wounds may be due to Felix being in a case that was too small and too hot for him.
Felix underwent four months of extensive treatment that included creating a bandage to fit his entire body to help heal the burn wounds and providing antibiotics to prevent infection.
Veterinarians do not know how old Felix is but believe he is fully grown. He’s about 6 feet in length, which is the typical length for a fully grown Florida kingsnake, according to the PHS/SPCA.
Felix is available for adoption for a $40 fee at the PHS/SPCA’s Center for Compassion at 1450 Rollins Road in Burlingame. He will require specialized care and feeding, so the center will only let him be adopted by experienced snake owners.
