The time to be outside is here, and the Redwood City Events team has a slate of programs and celebrations throughout the coming months that get residents connected, outdoors and having fun.
The events team has consistently brought programming throughout Redwood City with particular focus on the summer months, for 20 years. Beyond the tried and true, the city has some new opportunities for residents and guests to enjoy.
“I’m excited that the reason people may have moved to Redwood City or join us each summer is because there’s activities, there’s things to do, there’s always something going on,” Wilder said. “Our ability to sustain it is huge.”
This year, the city is also taking advantage of the upcoming soccer season. The 2026 FIFA World Cup begins in June and Redwood City is an official partner host city, an honor it’s taking full advantage of, Lucas Wilder, assistant director of Parks, Specific Events, Youth and Sports for Redwood City, said.
Viewing parties throughout the day and major evening games will be played on Courthouse Square — which will also be home to a slew of other events featuring live music, movie screenings and art showcases. There are plenty of programs at other locations throughout the city too, for residents of every neighborhood.
A rundown of events is included below, or visit redwoodcity.org/residents/redwood-city-events for more details.
Music on the Square
Beginning Friday May 29, music will take over Courthouse Square weekly from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The first Friday will open with a Santana tribute band and the season will close on Sept. 4 with a pop and soul cover band. In between, music nights will range from rock and reggae to funk, Latin and soul music.
Guests are welcome to bring their own seating or blankets, but they’re more encouraged to dance along.
Art on the Square
Some Fridays, along with live music, there will be an art showcase of an array of media.
The pop-up art showcase will include paintings, photography, jewelry, ceramics, glasswork and other handcrafted work from artists living on the Peninsula and throughout the Bay Area.
Art on the Square will take place June 12, July 10, July 24 and Aug. 28.
Classical on the Square
One Saturday, Courthouse Square will be taken over by the Redwood Symphony for the classical music fans in Redwood City.
At 7 p.m. June 27, the local symphony orchestra made up entirely of amateur performers who volunteer their time will take the stage, led by Eric Kujawsky and Kyle Baldwin.
“They play music the people want to hear,” Wilder said. “People come down to have fun and Redwood Symphony has always brought a great selection of pieces to play whether it’s powerful classical pieces or big music scores.”
Movies on the Square
Recommended for you
On Thursday evenings from June 4 through Sept 3, friends and family can gather to enjoy a double-feature outdoors on Courthouse Square.
The double feature will typically include a family-friendly favorite or independent shorts at 6 p.m., followed by the classics everyone loves or newly released films beginning at 8:30 p.m. Seating is first-come first-serve and limited, so attendees are encouraged to grab a spot as early as possible.
Opening night, guests can enjoy “Captain America: Brave New World” followed by “The Bad Guys 2.” A week later, make sure to wear green or pink to watch “Wicked for Good,” the second movie and most recent release of the franchise featuring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.
Something to note is the June 25 Courthouse Square viewing will actually be the FIFA World Cup match between USA and Türkiye at 7 p.m.
Rock the Dock
Throughout the summer, residents are welcome out to the Port of Redwood City on Saturday afternoons to enjoy live music and festivities along the waterfront.
The Rock the Dock series hosts the outdoor events every Saturday from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at 459 Seaport Court until November.
Pub in the Park
On select Saturdays, Red Morton Park will host one of the most popular gatherings throughout the summer months, Pub in the Park.
Live bluegrass music and drinks from local breweries will bring the community together on sunny afternoons. The festivities will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 30, July 11, Aug. 1 and Aug. 29.
While drink options will vary from week to week, featured breweries include SF Brewing Co., Blue Oak Brewing Co., Ghostwood, Alpha Acid Brewing Co., Narrative Fermentations, Ten Five One Cider Co., and Devils Canyon Root Beer.
Music in the Park
There’s a slate of festivities at Stafford Park throughout the summer on Wednesday evenings too.
From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Stafford Park will host ten weeks of free live music from June 17 to Aug. 19. In August, Music in the Park will begin and end 30 minutes earlier to account for daylight.
Soccer on the Square
The city is set to livestream 26 FIFA World Cup games over 15 different dates, including the Mexico game at 6 p.m. June 24 and the USA match at 7 p.m. June 25.
“If the time works out for you, we’re looking forward to having people come by,” Wilder said. “It’ll give people opportunities to see any of their favorite teams.”
More information on featured games will be provided on the city’s event website.
