Efforts to clean up a homeless encampment that recently caught on fire in Redwood City caught the attention of Gov. Gavin Newsom who visited the site Wednesday as crew members worked to break down the well-established site.

“All of us should be ashamed of the unconscionable status quo that sees too many Californians essentially discarded by our society,” Newsom said in a statement after learning of a woman’s death from a different fire at a San Francisco encampment Wednesday.

So a camp has to catch on fire before our illustrious King Newsom will take notice? Um, King Newsom, you may want to wander around any big city in CA, and even some of the smaller ones, to see how your kingdom is doing. And while you’re visiting, see how many of those folks are social distancing and masking up (I can’t remember if those are still a thing, it’s Thursday, so…). And don’t forget to put money in your budget for free needles and creating “safe” injection sites. I’m not sure whether CA wants to be known for importing homeless folks – I’m sorry, undocumented property owners, although that is an unintended consequence of all the “freebies” passed out.

Wonder where all the displaced homeless are now?
