‘Fillmore’ by Kevin L. Daniels

‘Fillmore’ by Kevin L. Daniels.

Works by figurative oil painter Kevin L. Daniels on view at San Bruno Public Library through Oct. 31. Imagine an oil painter finds a box of old photos that date back a century and then discovers that the photos are of his long lost relatives in the process of leaving the South in the 1920s and beginning new lives in California. Montara resident Daniels, a figurative oil painter, found such photos and undertook a four-year artistic journey during which he created a series of paintings to honor his ancestors and imagine their move to California and beyond. The artist’s mission involved DNA sampling, family discovery, painstaking library research and a reexamination of art history. Daniels said, “ I had to find descendants, my relatives, to understand the stories behind the photos. I had to use my imagination to create what they must have been like in order to paint.” Until Oct. 31, the San Bruno Public Library is displaying 15 of Daniels’ paintings in its main reading room at 701 Angus Ave. W., San Bruno. The City of San Bruno Culture and Arts Commission sponsors this exhibition.
