Menlo takes third place at Roche Invite
Host Menlo School settled for third place in the powerhouse Scott Roche Invitational tournament held at Menlo and Menlo-Atherton.
The Knights fell in Saturday’s tournament semifinals to La Jolla in the 16-15 overtime thriller, as goalkeeper Connor Burks recorded 12 saves, and Hunter Coleman scoring a team-high nine goals. La Jolla went on the win the tournament championship, the program’s third all-time Roche title, with an 18-10 win over Soquel.
Menlo claimed the win in the third-place game 9-4 over Rio Americano. The Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Burks pitched a first-quarter shutout. The goalie totaled 21 saves in the game, with Alex Stoffel scoring a hat trick, Adam Afar totaling two goals and seven assists, and Coleman and Andreas Profit notching three blocked shots apiece.
Co-host M-A settled for 14th place, falling 11-10 in the 13th-place game against Clovis North. In fifth place was San Ramon Valley after a 14-12 win over Buchanan; in seventh Redwood with a 23-6 win over Davis; in ninth Los Altos with a 12-8 win over Clovis West; in 11th Archie Williams with a 12-8 win over Rocklin; and in 15h St. Ignatius with a 17-9 win over Vista.

SHP splits last two at Golden State Classic
The Gators (4-2) closed out the Golden State Classic Tournament with a 3-2 win over Lynbrook in the doubles format at Los Altos High School. The bottom of the ladder won the day with a pair of super tiebreak wins, as No. 4s Charlize Pellet and Morgan Wickam rallied for a 6-4, 0-6, 12-10 victory over Vanessa Yap and Theresa Xu; and No. 5s Taylor Davis and Tina Zhang came back for a 1-6, 6-3, 10-7 victory. No. 1s Charlotte Weber and Jena Azmeh enjoyed a much less eventful win 6-2, 6-0.

In Saturday’s opener, SHP fell 3-2 to Monte Vista. Weber and Azmeh won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1s; while No. 2s Jasleen Chohan and Sadie Harmssen won a 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4), 10-7 marathon.

Menlo advances to Golden Gate semis
The Lady Knights (6-0) punched their ticket to the semifinal round of the Golden State Classic at Wunderlich Courts with a 3-2 win over Westlake-Thousand Oaks. Menlo opened the tournament with a win over Burlingame.
Menlo’s No. 3s Sulia Gayle and Leighton Bardony clinched the victory over Westlake with an 8-7 (2) tiebreak victory in the single-set format. No. 1s Elise Chen and Emily Li won 8-2, and No. 2s Celena Gao and Dorsa Amirkhany won 8-4.
SHP takes first loss of season at Golden Gate tourney
The Gators opened play in the Golden Gate Classic with a 5-0 win over Amador Valley, but stumbled in the second round with a 5-0 loss to Los Altos. It marks the first loss of the season for SHP.
SHP bounced back Friday in the third match of the afternoon with a 3-2 win over Mission-San Jose at Los Altos High School. No. 1s Charlotte Weber and Jena Azmeh won 8-1; No. 2s Jasleen Chohan and Sadie Harmssen won 8-3; and No. 5’s Grace Martin and Sadie Hubbard won 8-5 in the single-set doubles format.
