Mills picks up 1st Ocean win on last day of season
The Mills baseball had one last chance to avoid an oh-fer in PAL Ocean Division play as they hosted South City.
It took a little bit longer than expected, but the Vikings managed to pull out a walk-off win on the final day of the season, beating the Warriors 2-1 in eight innings Thursday in Millbrae.
Things were looking bleak for Mills (1-13 PAL Ocean, 6-18 overall), trailing 1-0 after five innings. But the Vikings tied the game in the bottom of the sixth to get to extra innings and then walked off South City (2-12, 9-18) in the bottom of the eighth. The Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
Tino Janke was the star of the show for Mills. Not only did he drive in a run and score a run, he was a workhorse on the mound. He pitched all eight innings, giving up one run while scattering five hits. He had two strikeouts and two walks and threw 103 pitches in the process.
Hagan Chan had the other RBI for the Vikings, with Nick Lafon scoring a run.
Diego Carranza had an RBI-double to drive in the run for South City. Vince Bernal was saddled with the loss, as he came on to pitch the seventh. That was in relief of Emilio Oseguera, who worked the first six innings, allowing one run on seven hits.
