Menlo 42, San Mateo 28
Senior quarterback Jack Freehill gained 310 total yards of offense as Menlo (2-0) surpassed the 100-point mark just two weeks into the season with a home win over San Mateo (1-1). The Knights opened the season with a 60-0 win over Hozho Academy-New Mexico.
Freehill was sharp through the air, completing 8 of 11 passes for 201 yards and one touchdown. But it was the Menlo ground game that won the day. San Mateo out-rushed Menlo 301-234, but there was no stopping Freehill, who took 16 carries for 109 yards and three TDs.
The game was tied in the second quarter when senior running back Chuck Wynn gave Menlo the lead with a 36-yard scoring run. The Knights pulled away by opening the second half with two straight scores — a 1-yard run by Freehill and a 44-yard pass from Freehill to Trevor van der Pyl.
Wynn totaled 12 carries for 82 yards and a TD, and senior Palmer Riley took in a 1-yard scoring run in the goal-line offense.
The Bearcats were paced by junior Lukas Fitzgerald, who gained 149 total yards. He took 17 carries for 106 yards and one TD on the ground, while going 2-of-4 passing for 43 yards and a TD. Senior running back Cameron Barry added seven carries for 55 yards and two scores, and senior Jovani Hernandez Cruz had 14 carries for 83 yards.
Balboa 54, Terra Nova 14
The Tigers (1-1) took their first loss of the season to Balboa in San Francisco. It was the sixth straight win for the Buccaneers (2-0) dating back to last year, when they claimed the San Francisco Section and CIF Division 7-A State Football Championship titles.
Terra Nova managed just 165 total yards of offense. Senior quarterback Joey Donati was 7-of-15 passing for 63 yards with a touchdown. Senior running back Austin Snead took 10 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown.
Now halfway done with their preseason non-league schedule, the Tigers travel to Capuchino for a Friday matchup at 7 p.m.
FRIDAY
Woodside 41, Mountain View 0
Senior running back Evan Frampton returned to action to rush for over 100 yards to lead the Wildcats (2-0) to victory at Mountain View (1-1). It marks Woodside’s second straight road win of the year.
Frampton totaled 24 carries for 130 yards and two touchdowns, logging the third 100-plus-yard game of his varsity career. The first two came in 2023 during his sophomore season in back-to-back games against Milpitas and Del Mar.
Woodside totaled 253 yards rushing as a team, with senior Daniel Torres adding eight carries for 75 yards and a touchdown. Torres also had a scoring catch, totaling two receptions for 33 yards, while senior Juan Servin and sophomore Kolby Nelson each logged receiving touchdowns. Junior quarterback Charlie Dalrymple was 5-of-8 passing for two TD passes, and sophomore JJ Lange also thew for a TD.
The Wildcats now have three straight home games on their schedule, starting with Friday’s home opener against Castro Valley at 7 p.m.
Sacred Heart Prep 35, El Capitan 27

Trailing 27-21, the Gators (1-1) jumped ahead on a Nathan Fox point-after try following a 4-yard rushing score by Cooper Karros with two minutes to play in the third quarter. Karros put the game away with a 2-yard run to the end zone midway through the fourth quarter, as SHP earned its first win of 2025 at El Capitan-Merced (2-1).
Karros totaled three rushing TDs on the day, including a 47-yard score to give SHP a 21-7 lead early in the second quarter. El Capitan rallied back to tie it by halftime, though, by virtue of the Sergio Mendoza air raid, as the senior quarterback connected for scoring strikes of 76 yards and of 74 yards to Anthony Jones. Mendoza then gave the Gauchos the lead with an 11-yard scoring pass to Austin Gooding in the third quarter.
Hunter Dolinko got SHP on the board with a 13-yard rushing score, and Maxime Morelle followed with a 19-yard run to the end zone to give the Gators a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. The Gauchos got one back in the opening minute of the second quarter of a 7-yard scoring pass from Mendoza to Lorenzo Peters.
The Gators remain on the road this week, traveling to Half Moon Bay for a Friday matchup at 7 p.m.
Half Moon Bay 49, Pacheco 21
Paxton Holden returned the opening kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown and the Cougars (2-0) jumped ahead 21-0 by early in the second quarter and never looked back in their home opener against Pacheco-Los Banos.
Holden gained 162 total yards. He added two rushing touchdowns of 6 and 1 yards, and finished with nine carries for 63 yards on the ground, along with 8-of-12 passing for 99 yards and two more TDs. Junior running back Luke Pimentel rushed for a game-high 87 yards on 10 carries with two touchdowns. Carlos Sanchez and Riley Jackson each hauled in touchdown passes.
Pacheco quarterback Raul Moreno completed 4 of 13 passes for 79 yards with two TDs, both to junior Brenton Siemiller. Junior running back Joseph Valencia rushed 11 times for 47 yards and one TD.
Acalanes 42, Menlo-Atherton 3
The Dons outgained M-A 371-157 in total yards, and Acalanes-Lafayette (2-0) rolled to a big win at home over the Bears (0-2).
Senior running back Josh Elerts was the show for Acalanes, totaling 15 carries for 171 yards with two touchdowns. Senior Deonte Littlejohn added two rushing scores, and junior quarterback Tyler Winkles threw for two more.
M-A senior quarterback Teddy Dacey was 9-of-14 passing for 99 yards. The Bears’ only points came on a second-quarter field goal by senior Anthony Perez.
Reno 28, Sequoia 0
The Ravens trailed just 7-0 at the half, but Reno (3-0) pulled away with 21 points in the second half on its home field to shut out Sequoia (1-1).
Reno junior Andre Daniels III rushed for 109 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns, while junior Lochran Gregory and senior Braylon Wilson each rushed for a score. Sequoia was held to negative rushing yards, while quarterbacks Ricky Delgado and Mays Pagnotta combined for a 78.9% passing clip. Delgado, a junior, was 9-of-12 for 76 yards. Pagnotta, a senior, was 6-of-7 for 44 yards.
In other action ...
Capuchino (1-1) earned its first win of the year, getting past Jefferson (0-2) for a 14-9 victory in Daly City.
South City (0-2) fell 45-7 in its second straight home game, hosting out-of-state Westlake-Utah (4-0).
