The opponents of Measure Q don't want you to know that Marina Shores Village is a solution to potential traffic mayhem, including an extensive plan to promote mass transit, provide shuttle buses and build road alternatives that will keep cars off Highway 101. Unless Measure Q passes, you'll get traffic problems beyond your imagination from people all over the region being drawn to this site by one more big-box retailer that will be under no obligation to do anything to resolve the traffic problems it will create.
The builders of Marina Shores Village have spent years working through the planning and approval process to convert the property from a commercial site to a residential site. This four-year effort resulted in negotiated compromises. The result was unanimous approval by the City Council for 1,930 new homes, including 290 affordable homes, in a well-planned neighborhood community. The builders of Marina Shores Village have designated 69 percent of the property toward the saving of the environment - not destroying the environment!
If Measure Q fails, Redwood City has no builder who has expressed an interest or willingness to rezone the Marina Shores Village site as residential. Who would want to risk another referendum when there is a profitable alternative identified in the EIR - big box retail and commercial development.
If Marina Shores Village is defeated, you know someone is waiting to step into the site and put up a big-box retail store we don't need. Big-box retail will only make things worse for us. Big-box retail will destroy the environment and bring unavoidable massive traffic problems.
The people are not being told the truth about Measure Q. If Measure Q passes, we will not have 17 high-rises, get the facts correct! If Measure Q passes, we will save 69 percent of the environment, if it doesn't, big-box retail and commercial development will not save the environment! If Measure Q passes, we will not have the traffic problems that will come with big-box retail and commercial development.
I believe that the Redwood City residents have the insight to know that voting yes on Measure Q is the best solution to housing, traffic, and environmental problems. I hope the Redwood City residents do listen to what the developers are actually saying and not the hype of a few that are not giving the correct facts.
I am voting yes on Measure Q. I encourage all Redwood City residents to support Measure Q and vote yes.
