San Carlos City Hall public park is literally going to the dogs. It is transitioning to a fenced-in doggie playground as we speak. The City Council evidently felt that they didn’t need San Carlos residents to weigh in on this project, so didn’t include it in any vote.
They did inform us of their decision in a postcard with a five-point font, challenging even those with 20/20 eyesight. Nor was it mentioned in the last, ”City of Good Living” projects review. Finding space for two doggie “playgrounds” (large/small) is not a bad idea, but taking our City Hall public park to achieve this is a terrible idea and deserves public scrutiny and notification. There is other space available: Big Canyon Park, or at the corner of Crestview and Los Vientos which is a partially fenced area already, with plenty of parking space. There is also the unused area that was being considered for a school on Crestview. Better yet, how about the space between the railroad tracks and El Camino Real? It could also include parking. Parking is already a huge challenge for those of us using the Library, City Hall, Adult Center and area residents.
When Wheeler Plaza parking closes, it will become a nightmare. Please reconsider your decision. It deserves input from all San Carlos residents, not just the dog lobby. This was and should remain open public space.
