Big box retail at the Marina Shores Village site is not an idle threat. If Measure Q is not passed, that's the zoning on the site, and the City Council will have no choice but to approve the next proposal that comes along. That's the truth that the so-called grassroots anti-Q campaign doesn't want you to know. The real bullying is from people who will tell you whatever they can to win your vote, regardless of what it means to the future of our city. And a significant portion of the real opposition from Measure Q comes from people who can't wait to get their hands on that property and sell it to some big-box retailer.
But the facts are simple and can't be denied by the anti-Q crowd. Look at the current zoning. The Marina Shores Village site's current zoning calls for 1.25 million square feet of big box retail and commercial development. The EIR clearly states this fact. With direct access to Highway 101, it's the perfect location for big box retail/commercial and requires no zoning changes. You want traffic clogging Highway 101? You'll get it with big box retail.
I don't want big box retail and more commercial development in my community. Don't be bullied by half-truths. Big box retail and commercial development are real possibilities. Like most Redwood City voters, I'll choose housing and parkland instead.
