Editor,

Recently I read Stephen Baxter's interesting article about the Oddest Parade of Odd Characters on Odd Day, Jan. 3, 2005 and its contestants. It was a refreshing idea. The Gunn student who took first place in the contest, Elissa Brown, captured the spirit of the day with her original odd letter and photos of her friends dressed in odd costumes. The contest led to creative thinking of its participants, and I hope to read about more of such challenges to the imagination in the future. Congratulations to teacher Ron Gordon for marking that odd date - 1/3/03 with an unusual contest.
