Editor,
Once, having found its way into the common lexicon, a simple but well-grounded word or phrase can be an effective tool in shaping opinion.
“Ethnic cleansing” is one such negative term that accurately depicts the current shameful attempts to hunt down and rid the country of illegal immigrants; i.e., the racially undesirable.
Many of them are young, and, having already been integrated into this society, are wanting to be a contributing part of it. They may now be looking for sanctuary. Perhaps a few people will be willing to secretly sequester these “outcasts” into their homes. But as happened in war time Germany, the feds will be breaking down doors and arresting everyone involved as criminals.
Perhaps the “Anne Frank Alliance,” or some such label, would suffice. It would associate our current political climate to one of history’s worst, and perhaps raise awareness with the comparison.
“They’re illegal,” cry the self-righteous. Immigration regulation is a legitimate issue, but with the current administration inciting latent bigotry in the more gullible and fearful populous, it goes beyond legitimacy. It is simply racism justified under the mask of legality. And so the cycle of hatred and oppression escalates.
I have been around long enough to have witnessed the hate and paranoia generated by the McCarthy witch hunts. It is happening again. With such outrageous acts including demonizing the press or installing incompetent, biased judges, the slow step-by-step tyrannical process is just beginning.

Trump and other Republicans are fearful of the growing Hispanic population because they believe that they tend to vote for Democrats. The irony is that Republican policies guarantee that that will be the case. Republican governor Pete Wilson fired up his Republican base with anti-immigrant policies in the 1990's. The result is that the Republican party lost influence in California.
Ethnic Cleansing? for wanting people to follow the laws of our country and prevent illegal entry in the future. Wow- I guess the left has used the word racist too many times it has lost its sting. Kurt shows us that the left is now using more derogatory terms such as ethnic cleansing to describe something that is legal and long overdue. Hard to have a discussion with people about immigration when the accuse of being racist and responsible for ethnic cleansing.
What a misguided message that is so far from reality! Ethnic Cleansing?! Please clean the garbage out of your mind.
