Editor,
I am writing to express my support for Suvarna Bhopale for Sequoia Union High School District Trustee (Area A).
Ms. Bhopale has served as a trustee in the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District for the past nine years.
What makes Ms. Bhopale stand out is her steadfast dedication to preparing elementary students for secondary education, program building, student achievement, and fiscal sustainability.
Ms. Bhopale and I have spent long hours debating the best ways to improve middle school education — so that the intellectual and social-emotional skill sets that allow for successful transition to the rigors of high school fit well with expectations — a concept known as “articulation.” For years she has served as one of the key liaisons between SUHSD and BRSSD with that goal in mind.
She has championed BRSSD’s strategic planning process since its inception and is actively involved in its current update. She helped lead the effort to address BRSSD’s enrollment surge by creating K-8 programs at Nesbit and Sandpiper Schools.
Ms. Bhopale is the only candidate with children that attend SUHSD.
This gives her grassroots insight into the impacts of policies the board may adopt (she’s frequently on campus as a parent and volunteer) and demands a level of ownership that no other current trustee or candidate will face — she has skin in the game.
Vote for Suvarna Bhopale.
