Valerie Dawn Stepps passed away at her home in San Mateo April 27 after a long illness. She is survived by her sons Tyler McLaineStepps and Quinton Riley Stepps, mother Jeanne Linquist, and sisters Sharon (Christopher), Michelle (Edward) and Stephanie (Max).
Valerie was born at University Hospital Iowa City, Iowa on February 24, 1968 to Dr. Jeanne and the late Dr. Paul Linquist. Her education began in San Mateo at The Carey School followed by high school at The Peddie School in Hightstown, N.J. She received a BS in Biology conferred with Mortar Board from Occidental College in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles.
Valerie worked in various research laboratories at Stanford and UCSF. She (like her Dad) could “fix” a variety of items. A family friend wrote of her: “she had a brilliant and inquisitive mind and loved to verbally spar. We are ever grateful to remember her laugh and her love of rescuing people, animals, furniture, toys and Steiffs and loving them to new life and usefulness.”
Memorial service will be held at Waypoint Church, 25th and Hacienda San Mateo at 10:00 a.m. on Friday May 22 followed by burial at Skylawn at 12:00 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in memory of Valerie Stepps to Stanford University School of Medicine on-line at memorial.stanford.edu OR by mail to PO Box 20466 Stanford, Ca. 94309-0466. Please make checks payable to Stanford University and include a note with the check or indicate on the memo line that the gift is made “In memory of Valerie Stepps for medical research.”
